Low Cost Flights - User’s guide
Low Cost companies are the ideal solution for those travelling by plane, covering great distances at minimum costs. But you must compare the differences of services that such companies propose to their clients with the ones proposed by more traditional companies.
One of the first “peculiarities” that characterizes low cost companies is the presence of their fleets in suburban airports, far from the city and low profile. Furthermore, in order to reduce company costs and consequently passenger rates, they usually eliminate or make you pay for services that they consider extra, such as pre-assigned seats or meals. Statistically low cost flights were massively approved by everyone, going from 3 million users in 1994 to 17 million and 500 thousand in 1998.
Online ticket sales, rather than at the airport or travel agencies reduces the costs of intermediaries in the sector, whilst the choice of not serving meals on board helps to reduce cleaning services of the aircraft and number of flight attendants.
Furthermore, carrying out more flights a day and filling the entire aircraft with passengers depreciates the cost of calls at the airports, already notably reduced thanks to the use of smaller suburban airports.
However, it is best to remember that low cost companies usually carry out short distance flights, characterized by the lack of refreshments and meals on board and the luggage you bring, whether by hand or checked in, must be lower in weight compared to those allowed by normal airline companies.
If you want to take advantage of a good low cost flight you better book your tickets, both single and return tickets, at least 15 days before your departure date and be ready to fly at all hours of the day, like late at night. Before making a reservation it is important to carefully read, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises, the rules and regulations of the company you choose to fly with and pay careful attention to airport tax and check in management.
